What is an Inclusive Playground?
Inclusive playgrounds are designed to provide a safe place where children of all abilities can play together and are developmentally appropriate for children with and without disabilities. Inclusive play takes away barriers to exclusion, both physical and social, providing a “sensory-rich” experience for all.
Inclusive Play Areas
Miracle League Park: The Harold Perrin Miracle League Park is a regional complex with the world’s largest rubberized ball field for children and adults with physical disabilities. The facility also has a playground with 28 different pieces of equipment, with each piece being handicap accessible.
The purpose of this park is to allow children and adults with various abilities to experience opportunities and fun with a playground that includes many fun and calming amenities for everyone! Rotary Centennial Park: Rotary Centennial Park located at Craighead Forest across from Pavilion 5 on Rotary Way, is designed so handicapped children can play alongside able-bodied friends. The park includes a playground, basketball court, and splash pad. Rotary Centennial Park was made possible by the 3 Rotary Clubs in Jonesboro (Rotary Club of Jonesboro, Rotary Club of Jonesboro - University, and Rotary Club of Jonesboro - Metro), and was dedicated to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Rotary International. Programs
Miracle League Baseball -The Miracle League removes barriers that keep children with mental and physical disabilities off the baseball field and lets them experience the joy of America’s favorite pastime. Since the main barriers for these individuals arise from the natural grass fields used in conventional leagues, Miracle League teams play on a custom-designed, rubberized turf field that accommodates wheelchairs and other assertive devices while helping prevent injuries.
